President Donald Trump delivered his first speech to a joint session of Congress tonight, and he addressed the central planks of his campaign – the military, the border, jobs and health care.

He said he will not allow the mistakes of decades past to define the course for America's future.

"For too long, we've watched our middle class shrink, as we've exported our jobs and wealth to foreign countries," Trump said.

He added that we've defended other countries while neglecting our own borders, and we've spent trillions of dollars overseas while our infrastructure at home has crumbled.

"America must put its own citizens first, because only then can we truly make America great again."
