A Colorado Democratic congressman invited an undocumented immigrant to accompany him to President Trump's address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday.

Rep. Jared Polis, of Boulder, said on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that Oscar, who is allowed to work in the United States under former President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) order, will join him in the chamber.

He said he would like to "educate the president, rather than rebuke him on this important topic."

Tucker Carlson asked Polis whether inviting Oscar, who he said was flouting federal law, would be as acceptable as a Republican inviting a tax evader or someone "flouting" gun laws.

Polis said he wanted Trump to know that discontinuing Obama's DACA rule would result in Oscar and 750,000 others to be considered illegal immigrants eligible for deportation.

"Middle America is dying, and you're spending your time elevating people who are here by definition in violation of our laws," Carlson responded.

He and Polis continued, debating whether DACA immigrants were a boon or a burden on the nation's economy.
