Dem Gov. Candidate Apologizes for Saying Trump Win Was Like 'Political 9/11'
A Democratic candidate in the Virginia gubernatorial race apologized this afternoon for saying the election of Donald Trump was "like a political and constitutional September 11."
Perriello, a former congressman, made the comment last week during a campaign event in Afton, Virginia.
After video surfaced on Wednesday, Perriello took to Twitter to apologize and say that he "regrets the comparison."
I regret the comparison and apologize. Won't do it again. https://t.co/5KEDysdKTX

One of the Republicans running for Virginia governor, Ed Gillespie, blasted Perriello's "offensive" and "outrageous" remark.
Tom Perriello’s 9/11 comparison is offensive. His calculated outrage is becoming increasingly outrageous. https://t.co/ue90a0mzja

Another Perriello opponent responded to the comment, as Corey Stewart (R-Prince William) labeled him "Dopey Tom".
