White House boogeyman?

According to a report, Democrats are looking to paint President Donald Trump's top strategist, Steve Bannon, as a "scarier [and] darker" version of Karl Rove.

Over the weekend, "SNL" spoofed Bannon by using a person in a Grim Reaper costume who then encouraged Trump to make hostile calls to world leaders.

It came just days after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) referred to Bannon as a "white supremacist" in her response to Trump placing the former Breitbart News CEO on his National Security Council.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, former DNC chairwoman, argued Bannon is "clearly the puppeteer" in the White House while the president is the "marionette."

Trump bristled over the weekend at the suggestion that he's not making the decisions inside the White House.

On "America's Newsroom" today, the subject of the comparison, Karl Rove, recalled when he was referred to as "Bush's brain."

Rove, former senior adviser to President George W. Bush, said he and the 43rd president both understood the motivation.

"It was about using me to attack him. ... When there would be some particularly nasty piece, Bush would laugh and say 'better you than me,'" he recalled.

Rove called the new attacks by Democrats "an effort to diminish [President Trump] by diminishing the people around him."
