Many in the mainstream media have dubbed President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration controversial and unconstitutional, but the American people agree with the president, Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) said on "America's News HQ" today.

"Much to the chagrin of the liberal press, America is behind our president, in making sure he puts the safety of America first," Collins said.

He said he's hopeful that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will lift the restraining order imposed by a Seattle judge, which halted the enforcement of Trump's travel ban.

Collins said the executive action, which restricted immigration from seven countries with predominantly Muslim populations, is constitutional.

"He does have the authority on everything he's done," Collins said. "He has the powers, I believe, to have done exactly what he did in that executive order."
