In an interview with The New York Times, Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's chief strategist, went off on the media, labeling it “the opposition party” and suggesting that it “keep its mouth shut.”

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Mr. Bannon said during a telephone call with the Times.

“The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

He said the media got the 2016 election dead wrong, and that's why they have "no power."

“You’re the opposition party,” Mr. Bannon said. “Not the Democratic Party. You’re the opposition party. The media’s the opposition party.”
