Thousands of Refugee Children Given Chance to Celebrate Christmas

One California sheriff's sergeant gave the gift of life to a fellow deputy in need, who was suffering from underdeveloped kidneys.

Sgt. Darrin Offringa said he approached Deputy Kevin Ay after hearing that Ay was suffering from health issues due to his kidneys and was on regular dialysis treatments.

His blood was tested and was found to be a match to Ay's, Offringa said.

Offringa told Abby Huntsman he dove into his personal faith and recalled Bible passages about sacrificial giving when he decided to offer Ay one of his own kidneys.

"Christ's life, death and resurrection was the ultimate gift," he said, calling it an example of how he should live.

Ay said he can never return Offringa's gift in-kind and said they were put together for a reason.
