Officer, Basketball Coach Save Teen's Life After He Collapses on Court
It takes teamwork to thrive on the basketball court, and the same could be said for saving lives.
A basketball coach and a police officer sprung into action this past weekend when a 16-year-old player went into cardiac arrest.
Surveillance footage from a Concord, N.C., gymnasium shows Tyler Brock collapsing face first into the bleachers during a timeout of a recreational league basketball game, as reported by Fox 46.
Coach Rodney Smith and Police Officer Corey Hynson immediately grabbed the gym's defibrillator and began CPR. These fast actions saved Tyler's life.
"I literally felt his heart start beating in my hand again, and it was the biggest relief that you could imagine," Hynson said.
Tyler was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with an enlarged heart. He will likely need a pacemaker and can no longer play competitive sports.
But more importantly, his family and teammates are just happy he's still alive.
