GOOD NEWS Notre Dame B-Ball Player Surprised by Military Brother in Emotional Reunion
University of Notre Dame point guard Matt Farrell got an amazing surprise after the Fighting Irish's victory over Colgate University Monday night.
On the scoreboard, Farrell watched a special video message from his brother, Army Lt. Bo Farrell, who was deployed in Afghanistan and was scheduled to return to the U.S. in February.
Bo, however, wasn't in Afghanistan. He was waiting in the wings of the South Bend, Indiana's Joyce Center.
In the message, he congratulated the Fighting Irish on their victory and told Matt he looked forward to "being home with you soon — really, really soon."
Bo then walked on the court to be greeted by a roaring crowd and a tearful embrace from Matt and their parents.
Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey and his staff had been quietly planning the reunion since Bo was deployed in May.
"He got me," Matt told reporters afterward. "We don't ask for much for Christmas, so this is the best present I've ever gotten."
