The internet was in a frenzy over the weekend after a video appeared to show a cell phone exploding in singer CeeLo Green's hand.

But don't worry CeeLo fans! The video was staged!

Surveillance footage shows CeeLo sitting in a chair talking on his smartphone when the phone suddenly explodes causing CeeLo to collapse to the floor.

In a Facebook Live video, CeeLo said he was "alive" and "well" and acknowledged that the clip was part of a new project entitled "Gnarly Davidson."

Initial media reports suggested CeeLo was hurt in the phone explosion but the extent of the injuries was unknown.

"I'm really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today," he goes on to say in the video.

The clip seemed to gain traction based on reports of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones spontaneously catching fire. Samsung recently disabled the model.
