A sad animal story in Dania Beach, Florida, at least has a happy ending.

On Monday, 18 ducklings, who were left stranded inside a storm drain after their mother was struck and killed by a car, were safely rescued by firefighters and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies.

According to officials, the ducklings fell into the drain after becoming disoriented from their mother's death.

Nearby resident Maria Gomez said she heard the ducklings chirping down the drain and called 911.

Though some had traveled down a 30-foot pipe, rescuers were able to successfully evacuate all 18 ducklings, which were transported to a local wildlife center and will be raised there until they are ready to be released into the wild.
