Many students at George Washington University participated in a walk-out several weeks ago, demanding that the school become a "sanctuary campus" for undocumented immigrants.

Campus Reform's Cabot Phillips and Amber Athey visited the university to ask students about the sanctuary movement and what other federal laws and school regulations they think should be defied on campus.

The students interviewed overwhelmingly agreed that George Washington University should be a sanctuary campus, where administrators would ignore federal immigration law and refuse to share information about undocumented students with immigration officials.

“It’s really important for students to feel safe while they’re going to school," one student said.

"America should be a place for everyone," another said.

Phillips and Athey asked the students if they are in favor of turning the campus into a "sanctuary" from other federal laws as well.

“What about a sanctuary campus where student loan laws don’t affect you here?” Phillips asked.

"Oh, absolutely," one student said, with another saying, "That'd be cool."

Some students also said they would like for the campus to be a sanctuary from underage drinking laws, parking tickets and even final exams.

“School’s been really stressful, especially after the Trump election,” one student said. “Like, it’s really hard to focus on your studies when there’s so much else going on.”
