Actor Gary Sinise showed his appreciation to the men and women who keep us safe, serving Thanksgiving Dinner to troops in Afghanistan.

The 61-year-old actor posted a picture on Twitter from Kandahar Air Force Base, attaching a prayer for U.S. service members.

An honor to serve Thanksgiving dinner to our Troops at Kandahar Air Force Base, Sending a special thank you to all who serve. Thanksgiving prayer for our Troops Thank you, Lord, for the courage and selfless service of our military troops. Thank you for their dedication in the face of difficulties and challenges. Thank you for their families. I pray that all of our servicemen and women will experience Your mercy each day, and that You will provide for their every need. Let them feel your presence with them, and your everlasting love. In Christ's name.

Many on Twitter noticed on Turkey Day and gave him thanks for his efforts.

It's far from the first time that Sinise - perhaps best known for his role as Lieutenant Dan in "Forrest Gump" - has worked on behalf of U.S. service members. Earlier this month, he attended the dedication of a specially outfitted home that his foundation built for an Army captain who was severely wounded in Afghanistan.

And his band, the Lt. Dan Band, performs free concerts for U.S. troops at bases around the world to raise money for the Gary Sinise Foundation.
