The man behind Monday's attack at the Ohio State University was an 18-year-old Somali native who was a legal permanent United States resident, Jennifer Griffin reported.

Abdul Artan, who was brought to America as a refugee at an unknown age, is suspected of driving a vehicle into a crowd on campus, and then attacking bystanders with a butcher knife.

Artan was shot and killed by police, and authorities are now looking into whether the teen had any ties to terrorist groups or whether he was self-radicalized, according to Columbus, Ohio Police Chief Kim Jacobs.

The attack occured just before 10 a.m. local time near Watts Hall, where the school's department of materials science & engineering is housed.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
