Fox News Digital Politics Editor Chris Stirewalt said Trump's pre-debate press conference with four women who accused Bill and/or Hillary Clinton of misconduct deflected from the Republican presidential nominee's "improved" debate performance.

"If you imagine...the hot mic thing hadn't happened," Stirewalt said, referring to the leak of a vulgar 2005 conversation with TV host Billy Bush, "He was more disciplined, he was better prepared [in this debate]."

"Because he batted [the tape debacle] away, instead of showing a contrite heart--because he brought the people in--the story coming out of this [Monday] is going to be all about that," he said.

"[It] overshadowed his improved performance," Stirewalt said.

Prior to the debate, Trump held a media availability with four women who have accused the Clintons of misconduct: Paula Corbin Jones, Kathleen Willey, Kathy Shelton and Juanita Broaddrick.
