The American League Wild Card Game between the Orioles and Blue Jays took a wild turn when a Toronto fan threw a beer can and nearly hit a Baltimore player.

It happened in the seventh inning as Orioles left fielder Hyun Soo Kim was backing up toward the wall to catch a fly ball.

The projectile, originally thought to be a water bottle, came dangerously close to striking Kim.

Security went into the stands, but according to reports, the beer-thrower was not apprehended.

The incident comes one year after an ugly incident at a Blue Jays playoff game in which unruly fans littered the field with beer cans, with one striking a mother who was holding her baby.

Meantime, Orioles center fielder Adam Jones said Toronto fans were yelling racial and ethnic slurs at him and Kim, who is from South Korea, throughout the game.

"I’ve heard that so much playing baseball. I don’t really care anymore. Call me what you want. I get it," Jones said.

Jones said he's become used to insults from the stands, but that Kim could have been seriously hurt if the can struck him in the head. He said he hopes the fan is located and prosecuted.

The game was won by Toronto on a walk-off home run in the 11th inning by Edwin Encarnacion.
