Donald Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the Republican nominee skipped mock debate preparation in advance of tonight's showdown with Hillary Clinton because he's more focused on studying and discussing the issues.

Huckabee Sanders explained on "America's Newsroom" that Trump does things his way and he's more concerned with being himself tonight.

"He's not a poll-tested, scripted robot like Hillary Clinton," she said. "I think that that's a great contrast to have and one we're certainly excited to see tonight."

Martha MacCallum pointed out that Trump seemed content to hang back during many of the Republican primary debates, wondering if he's ready to go in-depth on the issues when it's just him and Clinton on the stage.

Huckabee Sanders said Trump did what he needed to do to emerge from the primary as the nominee, and he's more than prepared to do the same in the general election.

"If you're doing something and it works, don't change it."
