Election HQ Carson: Trump Must Be ‘Laser-Focused’ on Issues; Fight ‘Attempts to Irritate Him’
Retired neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson recalled what it was like to share a debate stage with Donald Trump, as Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will Monday on Long Island.
“It’s fun being on stage with him. He’s entertaining and you never quite know what’s going to come out of his mouth,” Carson said.
“What he says is what he believes, [which is] most refreshing.”
Judge Jeanine Pirro asked whether Trump would be intentionally cordial with Clinton off-stage at the debate, as Carson said Trump was with his Republican rivals.
“No...because things have changed. He remembers people who were nice to him, and people who were not nice to him. He doesn’t do a lot of pretending,” he said.
At the debate, Carson anticipated that Trump will be “laser-focused on the issues and extra-cognizant of the fact there’s going to be an attempt to irritate him…to get him off track.”
“If they can make it about Donald Trump versus [about] the issues, that’s what they’re going to do.”
Trump’s detractors have also brought up multiple instances in which the New York businessman said untoward things about women.
Carson dismissed the criticisms ahead of Trump’s first political showdown with the female Democratic nominee:
“Over the years, [Trump] has dealt multiple times with women at every level.”
