Former Republican Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, now a Democrat, caused an otherwise silent and attentive debate audience to break out in laughter when he said why he would be voting for the Democratic presidential nominee, Brit Hume reported On The Record.

Crist served one term in Tallahassee as a Republican and another as an Independent, before switching parties again and unsuccessfully running as a Democrat against Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in 2010.

He is now running to represent the state’s 13th Congressional district, against incumbent Rep. David Jolly (R-Pinellas County).

The moderator asked Crist if he would be supporting Hillary Clinton in November.

“I am,” Crist said, lauding her roles as secretary of state and senator from New York, “I believe that she is steady…and I believe that she is honest, and I look forward to voting for her.”

When Crist uttered the word ‘honest’, the audience began laughing.
