Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said that former Vice President Dick Cheney is somewhat of a role model that he looks to when studying the role of the president’s right hand.

“I hold Dick Cheney in very high regard…[He was] a very active vice president,” Pence told ABC News.

“Dick Cheney had experience in Congress as I do, and I think [as George W. Bush’s vice president] he was very active in working with members of the House and Senate.

Prior to being elected governor of the Hoosier State, Pence served for twelve years as a representative for the sixth district, just outside of Indianapolis.

Cheney was Wyoming’s lone ‘at-large’ congressman for a similar length of time, from 1979 to 1989, before becoming George Bush the elder’s secretary of defense.

“I think Donald Trump’s got an agenda to get this country moving again. I hope that I’ll be an effective champion of that,” Pence said.
