Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich slammed Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comments as the latest in a “litany of hostility”, adding that he believed the Democratic presidential nominee combined that trait with the “propensity to lie.”

“She was creating a new class warfare of the elite intellectuals against the rest of us,” Gingrich told Sean Hannity.

“And the [audience was] playing to it because the love being intellectually superior and they are… economically superior.”

“Who are the rest of us to think we can govern America,” he said.

“That’s what makes it a stunningly powerful moment in American history.”

Hannity responded by mentioning some Democrats’ characterization of Donald Trump’s signature phrase “Make America Great Again” as discriminatory.

He played a montage of Bill Clinton using the term multiple times between 1990 and 2008.

“They’re desperate—the whole thing’s falling apart,” Gingrich said.
