Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.) reacted this morning on America's Newsroom to Hillary Clinton's controversial "basket of deplorables" comment, calling it a possible turning point in the race.

On Fox and Friends today, Donald Trump said Clinton's remark - for which she later apologized - was the "biggest mistake" of the campaign.

“You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables.’ They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it," Clinton told supporters on Friday.

Trump continued to hammer Clinton for the comment in a speech this afternoon in Baltimore, arguing that Clinton cannot continue in this campaign unless she "retracts" the remarks.

Flynn said this is a "real moment" in the election and that Clinton showed her true colors.

Flynn said he was struck by the fact that Clinton's campaign approved that remark in her prepared address and that audience members laughed.

The general pointed out that Trump has widespread support from veterans, police officers, border agents and the NRA.

"I mean, am I deplorable? It was dumb," he said.

Flynn said he believes that Americans are fed up with the "same old stuff" and that the polls will continue to tighten.

"People want change for the better. ... What you get in Hillary Clinton is the status quo, same old, same old," he said, adding that Clinton's "globalistic" foreign policy views have led to "disasters" around the world.

Flynn noted a new Syrian cease-fire just negotiated between the U.S. and Russia, questioning why Trump is being criticized for seeking better relations with Russia.

"Everyone said Donald Trump is too cozy to Putin. Baloney. This is about options and making sure we create as many options as we can going forward," he said.

Flynn ended by saying that the biggest national security threat right now is the "sputtering" U.S. economy.
