A normal school day turned into an emotional one for a South Carolina high school student last week.

Sergeant Carlos Solis Melendez had returned home early from serving in Kuwait, but did not tell his daughter, Solymar.

Unbeknownst to Solymar, her teacher had seated Sgt. Solis in the front row of the classroom at Spring Valley High School to surprise her when she came to class.

As Solymar walked to the front of the room to go to her seat, she suddenly spotted her father and burst into tears.

The two hugged eachother as Sgt. Solis handed Solymar a bouquet of flowers and a balloon that said "princess".
