Despite having hip replacement surgery only a few weeks ago former basketball star and current TNT commentator Charles Barkley flew halfway across the country to comfort a fellow reporter suffering from cancer.

Craig Sager was recovering in a Houston ward from his third bone marrow transplant as he fights acute myeloid leukemia.

When Sager’s wife became ill herself and was unable to keep her husband company for a few days, Barkley defied his doctor’s orders not to travel from his Phoenix home.

“Craig Sager is one of the most interesting people I’ve met,” Barkley told the Associated Press. “He has the most positive attitude. When you go to try and cheer him up [he] is so upbeat he cheers you up!”

News of Barkley's heartwarming journey quickly went viral Thursday afternoon.
