Dramatic body cam footage showed a police officer pulling a man from a burning car in Athens, Georgia.

Senior Police Officer Dan Whitney received a 911 call about a highway accident and raced to the scene.

When he pulled up, the wrecked SUV was engulfed in flames and a passenger wedged in the rear driver's side window yelling for help.

Whitney first used his fire extinguisher on the flames, then focused on pulling the man out. While this was happening, an explosion knocked off his hat and body camera.

The video description says the driver was killed in the fire. But had Whitney not arrived on the scene, the same fate likely would have befallen the trapped passenger.

The description also said the backseat was completely melted and that the heat from the fire was unbearable from 50 ft. away.
