ISIS Prisoner Kayla Mueller Stood Up to 'Jihadi John,' Defended Her Christian Faith
Harrowing new details emerged this week about the captivity of former ISIS prisoner Kayla Mueller, a 26-year-old American who was killed in 2015.
Several former prisoners who were held with Mueller told ABC News that Mueller suffered months of physical and sexual abuse.
Despite the horrific ordeal, Mueller stood up for her Christian faith while in captivity, even to the notorious executioner "Jihadi John."
Fellow hostage Daniel Rye, a Danish photographer, shared an example of Mueller’s bravery.
“One of the [terrorists] started to say, 'Oh, this is Kayla and she has been held all by herself. And she is much stronger than you guys. And she’s much smarter. She converted to Islam.' And she was like, 'No, I didn’t,'" Rye said to ABC News.
"I would not have had the guts to say that. I don’t think so. It was very clear that all of us were impressed by the strength that she showed in front of us. That was very clear."
It is believed Mueller was held by ISIS for more than 18 months before she was killed.
ISIS claimed she died in a Jordanian airstrike in February 2015, but the circumstances of her death have been disputed.
