A photo of an elderly Canadian couple meeting and holding hands inside a nursing home in British Columbia has gone viral.

Anita and Wolf Gottschalk have been living apart in separate nursing facilities for almost a year, despite being married for 62 years, Fox 61 reported.

The couple, both 81, were placed in different hospices after Wolf suffered congestive heart failure eight months ago.

Anita was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and also suffers from dementia.

Their granddaughter, Ashley Bartiyik, shuttles one of her grandparents about 40 miles each way every few days to visit the other.

As she was about to bring one of her grandparents back to their hospice one day, she posted to social media the picture of the two saying goodbye.

The family is appealing to the patients’ health insurer to have them reunite in the same facility soon.

Do you think they will be able to stay together again? Let us know in the comments.
