Viral LOOK: This Adorable 'Googly-Eyed' Squid Was Found in the Pacific
A crew aboard a research vessel off the coast of California recently stumbled upon an adorable, unique-looking sea creature while exploring the ocean floor with a camera.
In a viral video posted to YouTube, the crew of the E/V Nautilus debates whether the mollusk was a squid or a cuttlefish, a squid-like creature of the same family.
The animal, later identified as a Stubby squid, stunned the researchers with its ‘googly eyes’ and bright purple exterior, as their camera panned 3,000 feet below the surface of the ocean.
“They look like googly eyes---it looks so fake!” one crew member said.
“It’s like some little kid dropped their toy!” another said.
Another said it resembled the legendary seafarer Davy Jones, apparently referencing actor Bill Nighy’s octopus-faced version from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’
The Stubby squid normally makes its home in the North Pacific.
