Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake kicked off the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, but nearly forgot to perform her ceremonial duty of striking the gavel.

Rawlings-Blake filled in for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on short notice after Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign as party chair due to embarrassing email leaks.

She welcomed the guests and those tuning in around the world, then called the convention to order.

At that moment, she was supposed to swing the gavel. But instead, she started to walk off the stage, only to be redirected to the lectern by someone on stage.

She darted back to the lectern, picked up the gavel with a wide-eyed expression, and swung it down.

People who were watching registered their amusement and bewilderment on Twitter.
