Something strange in the neighborhood?

The Salt Lake City Health Department is investigating a mysterious green foam that was observed bubbling out of a storm drain.

A woman said she could see the foam bubbling and rising from almost a block away in the town of Bluffdale.

The source of the foam is believed to be a nearby canal, connected via river to Utah Lake, which has been recently troubled by toxic algae.

But the county said it wasn't likely that the foam was related to algae. They said the canal recently underwent a moss removal process involving chemicals that cause foaming.

Results from the department's testing were expected later Friday.
