New video shows the moment a U.S. Marine reeled in an enormous tiger shark off the coast of North Carolina. 

The footage and photos were posted by a witness, Laura Harrell, at North Topsail Beach this week.

David Schmidt said the nearly 12-foot-long shark weighed between 600 and 700 pounds.

Schmidt, a Camp Lejeune Marine, was with a group of researchers with the Apex Predators Program, which catches and tags sharks for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 

This particular shark was not tagged, however, and was released safely back into the ocean.
