Outrageous 'Stolen Valor': Florida Man Pretended to Be a Wounded Vet to Get Hired
A Florida man was arrested for tricking employers into believing he was a Purple Heart-decorated veteran.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said 23-year-old Stephen Henry Lang used a fake DD-214 military discharge document to obtain a Purple Heart license plate, which he used "to gain sympathy from his prospective employer."
A few months later, he again used the counterfeit document for another job application.
Pretending to be a veteran for monetary gain or benefit is a violation of state and federal "stolen valor" laws.
