'Like Ignoring Stage 4 Cancer': Hugh Hewitt Calls on GOP to Dump Trump
— POLITICO (@politico) June 8, 2016
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt believes the Republican National Committee needs to change their convention rules in order to prevent Donald Trump from becoming the official GOP presidential nominee.
On his radio show Wednesday morning, Hewitt said allowing Trump to become the nominee would be "like ignoring stage four cancer."
"I want to support the nominee of the party, but I think the party ought to change the nominee, because we’re going to get killed with this nominee," Hewitt said.
He pointed out that he has never made a statement like this about a past presumptive party nominee, but the controversy surrounding the Trump University lawsuits has pushed him over the edge.
Hewitt said that if Trump becomes the nominee, it all but guarantees a victory for Hillary Clinton.
"She’s going to be president unless Republicans change their nominee," Hewitt stated. "When the dust clears, we will have lost the House, we will have lost the Senate, we will have lost governorships"
He added, however, that if Trump somehow "pulls a makeover" and undergoes a major "personality transplant" in the next month or so, then he would be OK with the GOP keeping him as the nominee.
Otherwise, he warned, the Republican Party could be headed for disaster.
