A copperhead snake bit a customer Monday afternoon in the gardening department of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Denver, North Carolina, about 20 miles northeast of Charlotte.

The East Lincoln Fire Department posted a photo of the four-and-a-half-foot serpent to Facebook, warning that this could happen in any store that sells trees.

"Be mindful when shopping for gardening supplies," the department warned.

The victim was reportedly alert and conscious when firefighters arrived and was taken to the hospital.

Their condition has not been released.
