Woman Defends Her 'Small' Wedding Ring in Powerful Facebook Post

WATCH: Adorable 9-Year-Old Beats Local Media on PA Murder Story

A 9-year-old girl managed to scoop a big murder story in her hometown of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, but not everyone is congratulating her.

Hilde Kate Lysiak started the website OrangeStreetNews.com by riding her bike around her local neighborhood and investigating tips sent in by friends.

She was recently first on the scene after a woman was allegedly murdered with a hammer.

But afterward, some critics had harsh words for Hilde, saying that “9-year-old girls should be playing with dolls, not trying to be reporters.”

Hilde and her mom, Bridget Reddan, responded today on The Real Story.

Hilde said she realized her passion for journalism after following her dad on the job as a reporter.

“I went with him a lot when he covered stories, and I kind of realized it was what I wanted to do,” she told Gretchen Carlson.

Hilde’s mom said that critics have shamed her parenting, but they should know that her daughter was “perfectly safe,” as police were there investigating that day.

“I really, really feel that it is our job to kind of guide her with what she feels passionate about,” said Reddan, describing herself as a “free-range parent.”

“This is what she wants to do. I feel like we would be remiss if we didn’t encourage that.”
