A murder investigation is underway after the body of a female University of Texas student was found in a creek on campus.

The grisly discovery was made Tuesday morning near the Austin campus' alumni center.

Austin police have not yet released the freshman dance student's identity and have no leads on a suspect at this point.

Police advised students to be on high alert, keep their doors locked and avoid walking at night with earphones.

There's a heavy security presence on the campus, with police patrolling on bikes and in units.
