An online petition to allow the open carry of guns inside the Republican National Convention this July has picked up more than 14,000 signatures since it was launched earlier this week.

Ohio is an open carry state, but Quicken Loans Arena, the RNC's venue in Cleveland, forbids any kind of weapon, citing the state's concealed carry law.

The Change.org petition states that Quicken Loans Arena's no-gun policy is a "direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk," noting that Cleveland is "consistently ranked as one of the top ten most dangerous cities in America."

It's asking the venue to suspend the policy and calling on Ohio Gov. John Kasich to use executive authority to override the "gun-free zone' loophole," with the National Rifle Association also calling for the policy to be changed.

"The policies of the Quicken Loans Arena do not supersede the rights given to us by our Creator in the U.S. Constitution," the petition says.
