Is someone cutting onions?

A heartbreaking photo of a stray dog snuggling a tattered teddy bear has gone viral.

The picture was taken by a Houston woman named Yvette Holzbach, who works with the group Forgotten Dogs Of The 5th Ward.

The group rescues and feeds stray dogs in Houston and the area of the city where the photo was snapped is known for unwanted dogs.

The post generated many comments, asking why she didn't rescue the animal.

"We can feed up to 50 stray dogs," Holtzman explained in the post. "Of those 50 dogs we are lucky if we are able to save one because the sad truth is, there are not enough foster homes."

"If there is anyone that does not quite understand what we are faced with we welcome you to do a ride along with us. You will be astounded at how many homeless dogs there are."
