6-Year-Old Girl Taken From Foster Family Because She's 1.5% Native American

A 5-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after saving her unconscious mother from drowning in a swimming pool in Portland, Texas.

Tracy Anderwald, 34, was swimming in her sister's backyard pool with her daughter Allison last Friday when she suffered a sudden seizure.

Rather than panic, Allison dove into the water to save her mom, who was floating face down.

The rescue was caught on the family's surveillance camera, showing Allison swimming out to her mother and dragging her back to the pool's steps.

Only when Tracy's head is clear of the water, does Allison run to get help from relatives, who called 911.

Tracy was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial in Corpus Christi, where doctors were concerned that she might have permanent neurological damage.

But Tracy woke up Saturday morning, and after a few tests and assessments, she was deemed OK for release Tuesday afternoon.

"Allison's been swimming since she was two-and-a-half," Tracy said. "She's our little mermaid and my little hero."
