A new research boat in the UK is on track to be crowned with the name "Boaty McBoatface."

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) enlisted the public's help to name the 129-meter long, $300 million icebreaker.

They asked for names that were inspirational or based on famous historical figures. Instead, they got "RRS Boaty McBoatface," which soared to the top of submissions with 26,000 votes.

Other high-performing submissions included "RRS Usain Boat" and "RRS Ice Ice Baby."

It remains to be seen if the NERC will follow the public's will in naming the state of the art vessel, due to set sail for Antarctica in 2019.

In the meantime, their website seems to be struggling with the high amount of traffic.
