A customer with a concealed carry permit shot and killed a masked man wielding a hatchet inside a Washington state convenience store over the weekend, according to investigators.

The incident occurred at a 7-Eleven in the town of White Center Sunday morning, according to Fox 13.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., a masked man about 40 years old walked into the store and swung a hatchet at a customer, King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West said.

The man then went behind the counter and attacked the 58-year-old clerk, never saying anything.

Within seconds, a customer with a concealed carry permit pulled out his handgun and shot and killed the attacker, likely saving the clerk’s life, West said.

“Fortunately, because of this customer with his weapon, this could have been a lot worse,” West said. “The clerk could be the one laying there dead on the floor right now.”
