The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two fishermen off the coast of Florida on Monday after hearing a captain’s desperate cries for help.

Authorities released the distressing marine radio calls yesterday.

It was around 2:30 am and pitch-black outside when a man was heard screaming, “Mayday! Mayday! We’re sinking!”

“Coast Guard, we’re going down!” he yelled.

Thankfully, the two St. Petersburg fishermen were rescued just in the nick of time. They “stepped into the life raft just as the boat sank,” said the Coast Guard.

Officials said the men were not injured.

They praised the civilians for their quick thinking, describing how they “used a strobe light and flares to help signal the rescue crews to their location.”

“These two men were quick to react to a life threatening situation,” Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyle Gaub said in a statement.

“They utilized all the correct safety equipment … which helped our search ten-fold.”
