'I Really Felt Sick': Denver Police Memorial Vandalized Again

A 14-year-old girl in Wisconsin was recovering on Tuesday after she became impaled by a splintered floorboard in a basketball game.

The freak accident took place in a local tournament, leaving worried parents to scan the gym’s floors afterward.

The student’s fall was caught in the clip above. But at first glance, it wasn’t clear what exactly had happened, witnesses say.

“The official said, ‘What do you mean? Are you hurt?’ And she's like, ‘There's a piece of wood stuck to me,’” recounted tournament organizer Perry Hibner.

The wooden board had apparently split down the middle, and became stuck in the girl, according to Fox 8.

Hibner described the plank as “3 to 4 inches long, and in some parts, probably a quarter to a half-inch deep.”

Emergency crews evacuated the gym and took the teen to hospital.

Thankfully, none of her internal organs had been struck.

“Kind of like a strike of lightning where you just don't think those things are going to happen. It was a complete fluke,” Hibner said.

“I just think sometimes strange things happen, and there's no explanation for the phenomena.”
