Dr. Ben Carson said this afternoon he believes he's going to do very well in next week's South Carolina primary and is still a contender to win the GOP nomination.

Carson actually comes within a point of Hillary Clinton in a head-to-head matchup, according to the RealClearPolitics poll average.

Interviewed on The Real Story, Carson said his overall poll numbers are going to surge in the coming weeks as he makes his case in the Palmetto State.

"The message that I have and the code of conduct and the values that I have resonate extremely strongly with the people here in South Carolina and the receptions that we're getting are very, very strong," said Carson.

He said that he wants to get himself in front of enough people to combat the "negative image" that the media has presented.

In tomorrow night's debate, he said he will try to make the case that Americans have settled for a dishonest, "sleazy" government.

"There's no integrity anymore. ... If we accept that, then of course that's what we're going to get," he said.

Watch the discussion above and hear more from Dr. Carson, tonight at 8/11p ET on "The O'Reilly Factor."
