A Massachusetts police officer went above and beyond the call of duty to help a woman in need.

Officer Keith Perry, with the Seekonk Police Department, was called out to help a woman in distress Sunday night.

After talking to her, he discovered she was homeless and had not eaten in a while.

Out of his own pocket, Perry bought the woman groceries. He also helped her contact a distant relative to get to a local hotel room to stay warm during an expected snowstorm.

"Officer Perry epitomizes the meaning of Public Service," the department wrote on Facebook with the hashtag "#classact."
