A Utah police officer is now in recovery after a man who was reported to be trespassing suddenly attacked the cop with a large, flower-shaped lawn ornament, police say.

The bizarre attack unfolded in Salt Lake City late last night, as officers responded to a call about a man knocking on the doors of people’s homes.

As soon as they approached him, authorities say, the suspect refused to cooperate and became combative.

He then struck one officer in the head with a cast-iron lawn decoration, severing his ear and leaving a large gash in his head, according to Fox 13.

The man continued to resist arrest, eventually leading officers little choice but to use a stun gun to take him into custody.

The suspect was later identified as Leon Hall, a 23-year-old previously arrested for charges involving a hit-and-run and drug possession.
