An awkward moment at a Jeb Bush town hall event is going viral after the former Florida governor asked his supporters to clap for him.

It came as the Republican candidate was making a stump speech in New Hampshire.

A line he delivered about how "he won't be out there blowhardin'" and the next president should be "a lot quieter" did not get the enthusiastic reaction he apparently expected.

After a brief pause, he deadpanned,"Please clap."

The audience then clapped, but the moment has been widely panned - including by Jimmy Fallon on last night's "Tonight Show" - and led to a #PleaseClap trend on social media.
