Outrageous WATCH: NHL Player Slams Official, Gets No Penalty
UPDATE: Wideman has been suspended indefinitely.
Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman plowed into an official during last night's NHL game between Calgary and the Nashville Predators.
Wideman cross-checked linesman Don Henderson from behind, slamming him to the ground in front of the players' benches.
The 32-year-old Flames veteran told reporters he was disoriented after being checked hard by Miikka Salomaki and "couldn't avoid" Henderson, but video of the incident doesn't make that clear.
No penalty was called on Wideman, but he could face a suspension of 20 games if the league determines he hit Henderson on purpose.
The league announced an indefinite suspension for Wideman on Thursday afternoon. He will reportedly have a meeting with league officials next week.
