Sesame Street’s “Transitions” initiative helps military families transition back into civilian life, explained Elmo.
It can be hard for kids sometimes when they move to new places, and “what we’re trying to tell our friends is that they’re going through a great new adventure," said Rosita.
“First of all, Elmo and I, we tell them that we’re their friends,” she added.
The program hopes to encourage kids to be proud of their mommies and daddies, and to feel safe to talk about their feelings.
Moving around means that many of the kids’ environments are “always new,” said Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, senior vice president of U.S. social impact.
“What we want to do is provide as much comfort and communication for parents, and also for the children, to express their feelings and make this transition so much easier.”
