Sanders Supporter to Hillary: Many Young People Think You're Dishonest
Hillary Clinton got a stinging question from a young Bernie Sanders supporter during a town hall event in Iowa last night.
Taylor Gipple was introduced as a first-time caucus-goer who is "leaning" toward Sanders.
"It feels like there are a lot of young people, like myself, who are very passionate supporters of Bernie Sanders and I just don't see the same enthusiasm from younger people for you. In fact, I've heard from quite a few people my age that they think you're dishonest but I'd like to hear from you on why you think the enthusiasm isn't there," he said.
Clinton said her opponents have thrown out "outlandish" allegations about her for many years, but she's "still standing."
"You have to say to yourself why are they throwing all of that? I'll tell you why: because I've been on the front lines of change and progress since I was your age," she answered.
The town hall came amid a surge in the polls by Sanders. A new Fox News survey found Clinton with less than 50% support nationally for the first time.
She now holds a 49% to 37% lead on Sanders, with 10% saying they're undecided.
Andrea Tantaros reacted on Outnumbered today, highlighting that the top word associated with Clinton is "liar" and that she is failing to convince voters of her trustworthiness.
Tantaros said Clinton has been "all over the place" on her explanations of her private email server.
At the forum, Clinton refused to say she made an "error in judgment" despite previously saying she made a mistake by using the private server.
"The pride... she never worried about a Sanders. She just assumed, 'it's my turn. I waited my turn. Everyone is gonna have my back.' And pride always comes before a fall," Tantaros said.
Melissa Francis argued that Clinton should've responded more forcefully to the young questioner, though Harris Faulkner argued that such a response could have hurt her in terms of likability.
